Enjoy a taste of foreign lands with these budget-friendly burgers!
The Asian Burger
Add toasted sesame seeds, fresh coriander and a dash of
hoisin sauce (a sweetish Chinese cooking sauce made from soybeans,
garlic, sugar and spices) to your meat. Replace tomatoes with
sliced, grilled mushrooms.
The Mexican
Burger
Add onions, corn, dry mustard, chili powder or chopped hot
pepper and some breadcrumbs to your meat. Replace condiments with
salsa or guacamole and top with grated cheese.
The Greek Burger
Add garlic, fresh dill, fresh mint and chopped olives to
your meat. Use feta cheese instead of a processed cheese slice and
top with a little tzatziki.
Although hamburgers are traditionally ground beef, ground pork, lamb, chicken or turkey also make great burgers. For extra variety, replace....
- plain hamburger buns with onion, cheese, sesame seed or whole
grain buns, etc.
- tomatoes with grilled red, green or yellow sweet peppers, dried
tomatoes, fresh or grilled mushrooms, grilled cucumber or zucchini
slices. Add some apple slices for a delicious, refreshing change of
pace.
- the traditional processed cheese slice with mozzarella, brie,
Monterey Jack, etc. or try a blue cheese such as Bénédictin for a
more robust flavour.
- lettuce with fresh herbs such as basil, mint and
coriander.
- condiments with chutneys or fruit ketchup.
