Burger Bonanza!

Do you find the simple hamburger with ketchup and mustard unexciting even — dare we say it — ho-hum? Try new variations on the time-honoured classic.

Starting with the bun: onion, cheese, sesame, poppyseed... there are plenty of options besides plain, white and boring. As for seasonings and garnishes, the possibilities are endless.

Mama Mia Burger

Mix 1 tsp. (5 mL) garlic powder, 1 tsp. (5 mL) paprika and 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) dry oregano into the ground beef. Make and barbecue patties. Top with Dijon mustard, sliced provolone cheese, grilled onion, sundried tomatoes and leaf lettuce.

Brie Burger

For this classy cheeseburger, combine ground beef with 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) each minced fresh parsley and green onion and 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) bacon bits. Make and barbecue patties. Serve with thin slices of brie, grilled sliced portobello mushrooms, mayonnaise*, roasted garlic and alfalfa sprouts.

Swiss Burger

Mix 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) each minced onion, minced chives and Worcestershire sauce into ground beef. Make and barbecue patties. Top with sliced Swiss cheese, crisp bacon, pickles, mixed ketchup and BBQ sauce* and baby spinach.

Mediterranean Burger

For this hearty burger, combine ground beef with 1 tsp. (5 mL) each Tabasco sauce and garlic powder, and 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) herbes de Provence. Make and barbecue patties. Serve with sliced chèvre (creamy goat milk cheese) and fresh tomatoes, roasted pepper and fresh basil leaves. Divine!
