Storage life of bread
Baguettes, round breads and stone-ground whole-wheat
breads
Your METRO baker suggest to store these breads in a
clean and dry area, preferably in a linen, cotton or paper bag or
in a bread box. It is not recommended to store breads in metal or
plastic containers, plastic bags, or in the refrigerator.
Long breads such as baguettes and ficelles, have more air cells and are therefore much lighter than round breads, which is why they harden and go rancid much quicker. In fact, ideally, a baguette should be eaten on the day it was baked. And who would ever complain…the yeasty aroma of fresh baked bread is so
wonderful; why not visit your METRO
bakery every day!
To freeze bread, preferably choose round breads that do not dry out as quickly as long breads. Tightly covered with plastic wrap, bread can be stored in the freezer for up to two months.

Though breads can be stored in the refrigerator, there will be some loss in lightness and moisture. Bread keeps
for several
days at room temperature. In very hot or humid weather, bread will
of course stay fresher longer if it is refrigerated. Also check the
“best before” date on the plastic tag or the bag itself. These breads can also be frozen in their original package for up to two months.
