Stone fruits
Stone fruits have existed for ages. Cherries, dates
or nectarines, just to name a few, were already a food staple in
prehistoric times. As the centuries past, millions of varieties of fruits were created, depending on the climate, the continent, and the individual tastes of fruit growers. Stone fruits were of major commercial importance in the Orient and Mediterranean basin before reaching Europe. Stone fruits were introduced in America by explorers and settlers arriving by boat.
Most stone fruits are relatively fragile and should be handled with
care. All these fruits are excellent to eat plain, but they can
also be prepared in so many various ways, from marmalades to fruit
brandy.
