Dry fruits (nuts)

Nuts have been cultivated for thousands of years. In prehistory, humans discovered these edible kernels and soon made them a staple in their diet. Dating back to the biblical era, Southeast Asians were already cultivating pistachios, almonds and walnuts. The Greeks and Romans loved them. Today, coconuts, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, cashews and pistachios are still of major importance in international trade. If they remain as popular today, it is because they are very nutritious and require a minimum of preparation.

“Nut” is a generic term that applies to all hard fruit with an enclosed seed that is edible when ripe, usually without any further cooking or processing.
