Melons
The melon originated in
India where it has been cultivated since ancient times. It was
introduced into Europe at the start of Christianity. Today many
different varieties are grown throughout the world. It belongs to
the gourd family along with cucumbers, pumpkins, squash, and
watermelon. Like squash, there are summer melons (the netted melon
and cantaloupe) and winter melons (the honeydew).
