Squash - underappreciated Treasures

As Easy as 1, 2, 3!

If you think cooking squash is difficult, think again! Baking, steaming and microwaving are all sure and easy ways to prepare squash; only boiling affects its flavour.

Methods  
Baked Preheat oven to 350°F/180°.
Cut squash in two. Remove seeds and filaments. Place both halves, cut face down, on a baking sheet with a little water. Cover with foil and bake 30-45 min. depending on size.
Steamed Peel and cube, removing seeds and stringy matter. Steam 15-20 min. depending on size of cubes. Purée if desired.
Microwaved Cut squash in two. Remove seeds and filaments. Cover with plastic wrap and cook at maximum for 10-15 min. depending on size.

Couscous, cakes, muffins, soups, stews, pies… squash can be used in oodles of ways, even as noodles. Bake spaghetti squash, separate the flesh into long noodle-like strands with a fork, and top with tomato sauce for a nutritious, delicious, low-calorie dish. Or season spaghetti squash with salt and pepper and a pinch of nutmeg for another tasty delight.
