Kingklip (Golden Kingklip)

Part of the eel family, the golden Kingklip's elongated body can weigh up to 25 kilos and measure from 50 to 120 centimetres.
Contrary to other types of eel however, its body is more fish-like, becoming narrower and compressed near the tail.
The golden kingklip has a light, sweet flavour, much like orange roughy or bass. Its exture is firm and tender; its flesh flakes into large pieces when cooked.
Its good-sized fillets are excellent for roulades as well as for sautéing, oven-baking, poaching, grilling or frying.
- You will find golden kingklip already filleted, fresh or frozen, in your METRO fishmonger's display.
- The kingklip can be prepared in many different ways: poached, steamed, grilled, deepfried or oven- baked.
- It can also be used in fish soups or stews, as its flesh remains firm even after cooking.
Golden kingklip is available year-round in your METRO fish counter.
The kingklip is a lean fish and, as such, quite easy to
digest. We recommend steaming or poaching if you wish to
maintain the low fat content of the fish.
Like most fish, the kingklip is an excellent source of high quality
protein. It is also rich in calcium, iodine and iron.
Fresh fish should be eaten as soon as possible after purchase.
