To achieve its present level of success and sustain future growth,
Metro must count on a competent and qualified team that is capable
of meeting a variety of challenges. For this reason, the retail
division has implemented tangible training programs and leadership
development activities to meet the future needs of the
organization.
Structured job training programs have been put in place to train and support new employees as well as employees with new job functions. Another priority is the development of management skills and leadership qualities, as well as the more technical skills required in the areas of our distribution centres and information systems (SAP and EXE).
In Quebec, our School of Professionals, created in 1998, offers a wide range of courses on retail management, sales development strategies, food preparation and cooking, as well as client services program. Over forty courses are offered to every owner, manager and employee working under the Metro banners.
In Ontario, a number of programs are offered for new associates to enhance their knowledge and skill level. To support the management team in their continued growth, leadership development and training programs are also designed and offered.
These programs are constantly evolving to meet the demands of an ever-changing business environment while ensuring Metro has a competent and dynamic team!

To help employees reach their career objectives, Metro promotes
continued education by contributing funds through the President’s
Scholarship Program. This program is open to both employees and
their children, and generously awards five scholarships per
year!
Metro is committed to the advancement of our employees from within.
As an organization, we always strive to develop and promote
existing employees before opportunities are posted externally. To
ensure our employees are ready for that next step, development
plans are initiated early in the employee’s career.
Metro believes that it is important to reward employees who have
spent many years with the company for their sustained efforts and
accomplishments. Over 15 years ago, the company launched a program
to celebrate the years of service of its personnel.
Each year, Metro employees reaching certain milestones in years of service are invited to a celebration in their honour. Each honouree is awarded a gift of their choice by the Vice-President of the employee’s division and the Vice-President of Human Resources.
