(Montréal, May 19, 2004) — METRO INC. announces today that it has completed the acquisition of the 15 affiliated Metro supermarkets owned by Groupe Gagnon of Quebec City. The stores have combined annual revenues of more than $160 million.
Eleven of the 15 stores are located in the Quebec City area, two in the Trois-Rivières region and two in Eastern Quebec. They employ a total of nearly 1,000 people. The transaction includes all land, buildings and equipment.
With $5.6 billion of annual revenues and more than 27,000 employees, METRO INC. is a leader in the Quebec and Ontario food and pharmaceutical industries with its banners including Metro, Super C, Loeb and Brunet.
