Québec City, Wednesday, September 28th, 2006 –
The Brunet banner is innovating to bolster its in-store Health and
Hygiene Program at all 112 of its outlets by installing dispensers
containing an alcohol-based hand cleaner with skin softening
agents.
“This hygiene program is a cutting-edge initiative for dealing with
the risks of pandemics and other types of viruses and communicable
diseases. Like hospitals, pharmacies are front line services during
epidemics and are therefore high-risk areas,” noted Brunet general
manager Raymond Cloutier. “So starting next October 5, two hand
cleaner dispensers will be installed in each store. One will be at
the entrance and the other at the laboratory. Customers will be
able to disinfect their hands as they enter and leave the pharmacy
or if they come into contact with products that may have been
contaminated by other customers”.
“Because a portion of our clientele is often sick when they visit,
we hope that these new dispensers—which are being installed for
their benefit and that of our healthy customers and staff—will help
prevent the spread and transmission of germs. Frequent hand
disinfection using an alcohol-based cleanser effectively eliminates
99.999% percent of germs,” added Mr. Cloutier.
This isn’t the Brunet banner’s first innovation in regards to its
customer’s health. They were the first drug store chain to stop
selling tobacco products in its stores, sacrificing thousands of
dollars in revenue. They were also the first to pull
environmentally harmful CFC-containing products from their shelves.
In addition, they introduced yearly visits from nurses to check
customer blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels.
Owned by METRO RICHELIEU INC., the Brunet banner is celebrating its
151st anniversary this year. Much of its incredible growth is due
to its continual efforts to improve the products and services it
offers. In the coming year, Brunet plans to open a number of
outlets, all offering its unique and inventive take on the pharmacy
world.
