(Montréal, January 15, 2007) – The Regroupement
des Marchands Actionnaires Inc. has fully discontinued its legal
proceedings instituted in January 2003 against Mr. Pierre H.
Lessard, President and Chief Executive Officer of METRO INC. The
proceedings pertained to Mr. Lessard’s compensation and also
involved a request for his dismissal as President and Chief
Executive Officer of METRO INC. METRO INC. considers that the
discontinuance of these proceedings is in its best interest, as
well as in the interest of its shareholders.
Moreover, the Regroupement des Marchands Actionnaires Inc.
maintains the rest of the legal proceedings against METRO INC.,
also instituted in 2003, in which it challenges, in particular, the
conversion of certain multi-voting Class B shares into Class A
subordinate shares. METRO INC. will continue to contest the
proceedings instituted by the Regroupement des Marchands
Actionnaires Inc. since the company has always acted in the best
interest of its shareholders and according to law.
