(Montreal, April 19th, 2007) – Metro and Super
C supermarkets are pleased to announce that for the very first
time, they are joining the City of Montreal’s
OperationMONTREAL.net. In its circular for the week of April 16th,
Metro is inviting all Montrealers to take part in making Montreal a
cleaner city.
Metro and Super C are asking for the support of their numerous
customers on the island of Montreal to work towards a cleaner and
more pleasant living environment. Both supermarket chains want to
encourage residents of the neighbourhoods where they currently have
stores to keep their environment clean in order to improve their
quality of life.
This commitment from the supermarket chain follows its initiative
to sell reusable bags launched a little over a year ago. The
company sold close to two million bags, which resulted in the
reduction at the source of tens of millions of plastic bags. The
reusable bag is available for one dollar in all Metro, Metro Plus
and Super C supermarkets across Quebec. Made from 100% recycled
plastic, it is machine washable and recyclable. It replaces at
least 2 to 3 conventional grocery bags and can be used to return
containers that are “consignée Québec” to authorized points of
sale.
