Montreal, June 12, 2008 — METRO has won yet
another honour, with its selection of Irresistibles bread taking
home first prize in the Private Label category at the 15th Canadian
Grand Prix New Product Awards. The competition, organized by the
Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), recognizes the
quality, packaging, design and originality of food products. The
Irresistibles line of breads won prizes for overall quality and
packaging.
The jury recognized the Irresistibles line of breads for its
appetizing attributes, including its delicious taste, and crusty
exterior and soft interior. The panel described the product as a
great success, particularly for a private label. It found the
packaging to be both original and appealing and applauded the way
it showcases the product as traditional, farmhouse bread. This
year, the 32-member jury was made up of consumers, food editors,
journalists, advertising executives, package designers, and CCGD
distributor members from across Canada. It was chaired by Marcus
Von Albrecht, Director, British Columbia Chefs’ Association.
In addition to the award-winning breads, two other METRO products—
Irresistibles pies and probiotic cereals—were finalists in the
competition. “This prestigious national award reinforces our
commitment to always offer our customers tasty, high-quality
foods,” stated Johanne Choinière, METRO’s Senior Vice-President,
National Procurement and Corporate Brands.
Irresistibles breads are made without preservatives using top
quality ingredients. They include Parisian, Ciabatta, Belgian and
multigrain Belgian, baguette and round bread.
