Montreal, March 11, 2009 - Metro is proud to be
the exclusive distributor of the $1 coin commemorating the 100th
anniversary of the Canadiens, in partnership with the Montreal
Canadiens and the Royal Canadian Mint. This historic coin, sure to
be highly prized by hockey fans, will be available at the checkout
beginning March 11 at Metro's 222 grocery stores across
Quebec.
Visitors to Metro grocery stores will be able to go to any cash
register to exchange their old coins for new Montreal Canadiens
Centennial one-dollar circulation coins.
"As a partner of the Canadiens for over five years, we are thrilled
that Metro will play a part in the Montreal Canadiens' 100th
anniversary celebration through the release of this commemorative
coin," stated Christian Bourbonnière, senior vice-president, Quebec
Division, Metro Inc. "This is a unique way of celebrating this
historical event with Quebec's favourite team," he added.
