April 28, 2009 - New Food Basics Opens in Waterloo
New discount store offers residents, Always more for Less!


WATERLOO, April 28, 2009
– Waterloo residents can now appreciate always more for less when they visit their new Food Basics store at 600 Laurelwood Drive beginning Wednesday, April 29, 2009. The new store offers price savvy customers a wide assortment of quality grocery, produce, dairy and meat products all at low prices. To celebrate the opening, the first 2,000 customers will receive a limited edition Food Basics reusable bag.

“We are pleased to offer Waterloo residents a new discount alternative where they can appreciate substantial savings on thousands of products,” said Richard Currie, vice-president, discount operations. “Customers will be impressed by Food Basics’ selection of low-priced fresh and grocery items designed to complete their everyday shopping needs.”

Join store manager Daniel Bremner along with director of field merchandising John Manax and Richard Currie for the official opening at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29.

In-store activities taking place on April 29 include musical entertainment by the Jazz Band (8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) stilt walkers and balloonists (8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.). Customers will also have a chance to win a $100 shopping spree from Food Basics.

Food Basics is Metro’s discount grocery retail store in Ontario. With 117 stores across Ontario, Food Basics saves customers money on their grocery bill by carrying only the best selling brands and products complemented by our own low-priced private label brands. In addition, the new Food Basics store at 600 Laurelwood Drive offers customers an increased selection of national brands. Customers can now find all of their favourite brands at exceptionally low prices.
