METRO INC. ANNOUNCES THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SUPER C DISCOUNT
STORE IN VAL-D’OR
Val-d’Or, September 16, 2009 – Metro Inc. today
inaugurated the future site of the first-ever discount Super C
store in Val-d’Or, in a ceremony attended by various local
community members, including Val-d’Or Mayor Fernand Trahan. Ten
million dollars has been invested in the Val-d'Or Super C, which
will have a total surface area of 38,000 sq. ft and will create 80
new jobs. The opening is slated for February 2010.
"Today's announcement has a special meaning for us, since it marks
the return of Metro Richelieu to Abitibi-Témiscamingue following a
three-year absence. We are proud to offer consumers in Val-d’Or and
surrounding areas a discount store that meets their needs and
expectations. This store will be the 65th Super C in Quebec," noted
Christian Bourbonnière, Senior Vice-President, Quebec Division of
Metro Inc.
Super C discount markets offer over 8,000 different products,
including 1,200 under the Selection and Irresistibles private
labels. The store will include a meat counter with quality cuts
prepared on site by butchers, a wide selection of fruits and
vegetables, and a bakery with bread baked fresh daily. Super C
markets stand out from the rest of the food industry because of
their "market and warehouse" concept.
This concept involves an essential elements approach modelled after
public markets and warehouses, meaning wide aisles, easily
accessible products and, most importantly, highly competitive
prices. And customers appreciate the clean, simple look of the
store.
Construction work, the main part of which has been mandated to
local businesses, will take place over a six-month period. The
store will be built on a 180,607 sq. ft. lot located at 1818, 3rd
Avenue in Val-d’Or. A 209-space outdoor parking lot is also
planned.
Anyone interested in applying for a position at the new store can
do so online at the Careers section at metro.ca.
