December 16, 2009 - Metro Christmas Baskets Deliver Healthy Food Essentials - Groceries Worth $300,000 Donated to those in Need as Metro Partners with Moisson Montréal

Montreal, December 16, 2009 –With the importance of eating well and of the challenging times many people face during the holidays in mind, Metro has teamed up with Moisson Montréal this year to put together a healthy selection of groceries valued at over $300,000 for needy Montreal families. From tourtières and stews to fruits, vegetables, pasta and cereal, Metro's generous gift was delivered to the food bank packed with nutritious grocery items and other essential products. Metro and Moisson Montréal would like to thank Olymel, Exceldor and Le Maître Saladier for supporting this important initiative.

"Preparing Christmas baskets has become a tradition in which Metro and its employees are very proud to have participated in for the past nine years. This year, we worked closely with Moisson Montréal representatives, who helped us choose the food and other products. In every community, the holiday season is a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate, and we sincerely hope to give families supported by Moisson Montréal the opportunity to gather around the table and enjoy their traditions," noted Marie-Claude Bacon, Director of Corporate Affairs at Metro.

"Metro has been a major partner of Moisson Montréal for many years, and its efforts to meet the increasing demand for food assistance in Montreal extend far beyond the holiday season and throughout the year. Metro's generous donation will enable us to collect the 375,000 items needed for assembling the 15,000 Christmas baskets requested by the 211 community groups that we support. It's a wonderful story of sharing and cooperation in these difficult times," stated Johanne Théroux, Executive Director at Moisson Montréal.
