Val-d’Or, Quebec, February 25, 2010 – The first
Super C discount store in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region is now
open to the residents of Val-d’Or and surrounding areas. Located at
1818, 3rd Avenue in Val-d’Or, this is the 68th store of the Super C
chain, with a total sales floor of 38,000 sq. ft., is celebrating
the grand opening of its easy to navigate public
market/warehouse-type store with hundreds of specials and local
products.
"This launch is a special occasion for us because it marks Metro's
return to the area after a three year absence,” stated Jean-Guy
Tremblay, Vice-president, Operations, Super C. “In keeping with our
corporate culture, we want to play an active role in the community,
both socially and economically. In addition to promoting local
products, we'll be prominently featured, as a "proud partner," at
festivities marking the 75th anniversary of the city of
Val-d’Or".
"In recent months, we've stepped up meetings with local producers;
in fact, we've already signed agreements with several of them.
Consumers will be happy to know that our shelves are stocked with
La Fraisonnée jams from Clerval, Abitémis natural honey from
St-Bruno-de-Guigues and cheeses from Le Fromage au village in
Lorrainville, Chèvrerie Dion in Montbeillard and La Vache à
Maillotte in La Sarre. Other agreements will be announced in the
coming months," stated Bernard Sylvestre, manager of the new Super
C in Val-d’Or.
In the produce section, shoppers can find Témiscamingue potatoes,
from the Lunick farm in Saint-Eugène-de-Guigues, near the
greenhouse tomatoes from Guyenne. Customers will also enjoy a meat
counter with cuts prepared on-site by butchers. In the bakery
section, the smell of freshly baked bread from Boulangerie Lacroix
in Normétal and the selection of mouth-watering pastries will tempt
hungry shoppers.
In total, the store boasts over 8,000 grocery products, including
1,600 Selection and Irresistibles private-label products. Super C
stores stand out from the rest of the food industry because of
their "market and outlet" design, meaning wide aisles, easily
accessible products, and most importantly, highly competitive
prices. Customers appreciate the clean, simple look of the
stores.
The $10-million investment in the Super C in Val-d’Or has created
over 100 new local jobs. The construction work, most of which was
awarded to local businesses, took place over a six-month
period.
