March 18, 2010 - A new Metro Plus in l'Ancienne-Lorette - An investment of nearly $10 million

Montreal, March 18, 2010 – Léonard Sénéchal, the manager of the Metro Plus in l’Ancienne-Lorette, proudly announced the grand opening of his new supermarket to Quebec City residents, at a ceremony attended by several dignitaries, guests and customers. The relocation project, which required an investment of approximately $10 million, has added over 30,000 sq. ft. of floor space to the store, bringing the total surface area to 47,000 sq. ft. Moreover, some forty new jobs were created, in addition to the 80 existing jobs.

The new Metro Plus in l’Ancienne-Lorette, located at 1858 Notre-Dame Street, was expanded and renovated to better meet its customers’ growing and varied grocery needs. This ultra-modern store is designed to cater to today’s demanding consumer. Customers perusing the aisles will find:

  • A wider variety of grocery items;
  • A selection of cut fruits and vegetables;
  • A wide range of Quebec and imported cheeses;
  • An Aki Sushi counter, with fresh sushi prepared in store;
  • An aisle of imported products from all over the world;
  • A range of high-end chocolates;
  • "Tentations du chef" prepared meals;
  • A modern lunch area, ideal for sipping a coffee and relaxing;
  • A master butcher and a gourmet fish counter;
  • A self-serve counter offering chicken wings and seafood in bulk;
  • A counter with fresh bread and pastries baked daily;
  • Numerous organic and gluten-free products.

Not only does this "boutique-style" store give customers many daily meal options, it also offers a large selection of beauty and health products at prices comparable to those in pharmacies.

Environmentally friendly refrigeration system

The new Metro Plus in l’Ancienne-Lorette is equipped with a new refrigeration system, known as the Eco2-System, developed by CSC Group, a Quebec based enterprise located in Les Côteaux. This unique system, operates entirely with CO2 as a refrigerant. This system allows for a marked reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. as much as 3,300 times lower than the other technologies currently available on the market. The CO2 replaces the synthetic refrigerant in both refrigeration and central air conditioning systems, helping to further reduce a building's environmental impact. The adoption of this technology is a first for the Metro banner.

The Eco2-System also includes a heat recovery process that eliminates the need for a traditional heating system (glycol-based heating system using the heat recovered from refrigeration systems). This eco-friendly process enables the building to be heated at no extra cost, and the system itself affords a much broader and more efficient control of the temperature in each area of the building, i.e. the warehouse, the back of the building, loading docks or other areas, resulting in increased comfort for the occupants. Even domestic hot water is preheated using the heat generated by the refrigeration compressors.

Mr. Sénéchal and his team would like to invite residents of l’Ancienne-Lorette and surrounding areas to come meet them and discover a unique food shopping experience.
