How to make room for two cooks in the kitchen!

Wouldn’t it be nice to cook as a couple once in a while? Sometimes all you have to do is ask! You’ll be surprised at how much fun it can be. Here’s how to make this culinary activity a pleasurable experience!
Cooking as a couple 101
1- Get comfortable

First things first…start by getting into some comfortable clothes, uncork a good bottle of wine, select some nice background music and head for the kitchen!

2- Set out everything you need

Set out all the necessary ingredients, tools, platters, etc. It may be a good idea to cover your recipe cards with plastic and put them in plain view so that you can both refer to them quickly.

3- Who will be the chef?

If it’s the first time, perhaps you should be the chef and your partner the sous-chef. Determine each other’s duties before you start. If your partner is not very good in the kitchen, get him to prepare the vegetables, measure out quantities, do the dishes. You on the other hand can assemble the dishes and help out your assistant if need be!

4- Clean up as you go along

As soon as a recipe is completed, clean up. Make sure you always have warm soapy water in the sink to wash knives, cutting boards, measuring cups, etc. This way, you won’t needlessly overload your dishwasher and you’ll always have clean cooking implements on hand.

5- Accept that it will be different

Even if the carrots are not cut exactly the way you are used to, it doesn’t matter; they’ll end up being just as tasty! Let your partner do it his way… if you ever want to see him in the kitchen again!

6- Plan on more preparation time and take advantage of the moment

It always takes more time to prepare a meal when there are two cooks in the kitchen. That’s because there’s always more talking, more laughing, more kidding around. Take your time. Just plan ahead so you don’t eat too late!

7- Set the table

If your partner is not too keen on cutting vegetables, let him set the table: nice tablecloth, beautiful cutlery, fine china, elegant glasses. Light some candles and savour the moment!

8- Invite dear friends

If you feel like it, why not invite a few people you really like? You can boast about having cooked together and share the fruits of your efforts with close friends. (You might want to wear something a little dressier than your leggings though!)

9- Congratulate your partner on a job well done

Take the time to congratulate your partner for his good work. It’s always nice to hear and perhaps he’ll want to cook with you more often!

10- Tea, dessert, and a short walk for good health!

After dessert, there’s nothing better than a cup of green tea followed by a leisurely walk outside to burn off some of those calories.
