Recipe ingredients
- 6 Cortland apples
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) cream cheese*
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) coarsely chopped pecans
- 13 oz. (400 g) frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg*, beaten
Preparation
Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C.
Peel and core apples, taking care not to cut through the bottom. Set aside.
In a bowl, mix cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon and pecans. Stuff apples with mixture.
Roll out puff pastry dough on a floured surface and cut into 6 squares measuring 8 in. (20 cm).
Place an apple in the centre of each square, baste edges of dough with egg wash and bring 4 sides up, pressing edges together to seal them. Baste dumpling with egg wash.
Put dumplings on a greased cookie sheet and bake 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve.
Suggestion
Replace Cortlands with Granny Smith apples, use fewer pecans and add raisins or dried cranberries. Flavour with a little orange zest.* We recommend Selection and Irresistibles products.
