Recipe ingredients

  • Dressing
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) olive oil*
  • 1/2 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) liquid honey*
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) savory
  • 1/4 tsp. (1 mL) nutmeg
  • Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 6 cups (1.5 L) shredded red cabbage
  • 2 apples
  • 1 pear
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) lemon juice
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced fine
  • 24 ground cherries

Preparation

In a big bowl, mix all dressing ingredients together. Add cabbage and toss. Let stand 30 minutes, tossing from time to time.
Cut apples into tooth-like rectangles. Peel and slice pear. Brush cup pear and apples with lemon juice. Add apples, pear and onion to slaw and toss. Before serving, garnish each plate with three ground cherries.

Suggestion

Prepare ground cherries by lifting the membrane that covers them without removing it completely. They will look like little rumpled heads.
