Recipe ingredients
- 1 lb. (450 g) ground turkey
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) long grain rice *
- 1 red onion, finely chopped
- 28 oz. (796 mL) canned whole tomatoes *, not drained
- 1 tsp. (5 mL) dried basil
- 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) cornstarch *
- 1 cup (250 mL) milk
Preparation
In a large bowl, mix turkey, rice and onion; shape into meatballs about 3/4 in. (2 cm) in diameter. Set aside.
In the food processor, purée tomatoes; pour purée into a pan.
Add basil and meatballs; bring to a boil and cover. Lower heat and simmer over medium-low about 15 minutes or until turkey is no longer pink.
In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with milk; add to meatballs; cook until the sauce thickens. Serve.
Suggestion
Keep turkey in the upper level of the refrigerator and use as soon as possible. For easier to handle meatballs, add an egg to the mixture.* We recommend Selection and Irresistibles products.
