Recipe ingredients
- 2 cups (500 mL) water
- 3/4 cup (180 mL) sugar*
- juice of 1 lemon
- 4 firm, ripe pears, peeled
- 1 cup (250 mL) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation
In a pot, combine water, sugar and lemon juice.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Lower heat to medium.
Put the pears in and poach until tender.
In a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips. Pour over pears to coat.
Suggestion
Pears keep best at room temperature, but not all piled up in a fruit bowl or basket. Very ripe pears should be stored in the refrigerator.
Pears can be frozen; simply peel, cut into wedges and poach for a few minutes in boiling water to which lemon juice has been added.
