Recipe ingredients
- 1 lb spicy italian sausage
- 28 oz italian tomatoes, diced
- 5.5 oz tomato paste
- 14 oz Hunt's tomato sauce
- 65 ml ketchup
- 1 onion, minced
- 4 cloves garlic, pressed
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 2 teaspoon oregano
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- Pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Cayenne pepper, to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 225 g grated cheese
- 1 red pepper, diced
Preparation
Purée the italian-spiced tomatoes with a hand mixer. Sauté the onion, the garlic and the red pepper in the oil, on a low heat, for 5 minutes. Remove the sausage casings and crumble the filling, adding it to the pan with the onions, the pepper and the garlic. Cook until the meat is no longer red. Add the tomatoes, the tomato sauce, the ketchup, sugar, oregano, basil and Cayenne pepper. Let everything simmer until the sauce thickens a bit, around 30 minutes. Cook the lasagna noodles as usual. Dress the lasagna, starting with the sauce at the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the grated cheese. Cook in the oven at 350F (180C) for 40 minutes. Finish cooking under the grill (broil) for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and brown.
