Recipe ingredients

  • Meatballs
  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) minced onion
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) regular sour cream*
  • 1/3 cup (80 mL) breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) minced fresh ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sweet and Sour Sauce
  • 2/3 cups (160 mL) brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 Tbsp. (45 mL) cornstarch *
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) dry mustard
  • 1 cup (250 mL) pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) vinegar
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) ketchup *
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) water
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) Soya sauce *.

Preparation

Meatballs
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a glass, bowl mix meatball ingredients with your hands.
Make 1-inch (2.5-cm) meatballs and arrange them on a cookie sheet.
Bake 20 minutes at 350 F (180 C), turning them halfway through cooking time. Meatballs are done when they show no pink.
Sweet and Sour Sauce
Mix brown sugar, cornstarch and dry mustard in a saucepan.
Add other ingredients and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and cook over medium heat until thick.
Remove from heat and serve as dipping sauce.

Suggestion

The meatballs can be made ahead of time and kept in the freezer. To prevent them from sticking together, freeze them loose on a cookie sheet for 3 hours before putting them in a freezer bag or container.
