Recipe ingredients
- 1 small onion, minced
- 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) vegetable oil*
- 1 14-oz. (398 mL) can kidney beans, drained
- 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) all-purpose flour*
- 1 14-oz. (398 mL) tomato sauce*
- ½ tsp. (2 mL) chili powder
- 6 Maple Leaf Top Dogs
- 6 large hot dog buns
- Grated cheddar to taste
Preparation
In a skillet, heat oil and brown onion. Add kidney beans. Sprinkle flour in and mix thoroughly. Add tomato sauce and continue cooking on medium, stirring often, until mixture thickens. Add chili powder. Set aside.
Preheat barbecue to medium.
Barbecue wieners and toast buns to taste on the grill.
Put hot Maple Leaf Top Dogs in buns.
Top each hot dog with ½ cup (125 mL) hot chili.
Sprinkle generously with grated cheddar.
