French Apple and Raisin Toast

Recipe ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) butter
- 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) brown sugar
- 5 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) lemon juice
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) raisins
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups (500 mL) milk
- 16 slices of French-style bread or slices of crusty bread approx. 1/2 in. (1.25 cm) thick
- Maple syrup to taste
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 400°F / 205°C. Melt the butter and add the bown sugar. Sprinkle lemon juice over the apples. Add the apples and raisins to the butter and brown sugar mixture. Cook 3 to 4 minutes. Pour into a 13 x 10-in. (33 x 25 cm) Pyrex pan.
Beat the eggs and milk together. Soak the bread into the mixture. Place de the bread slices over the apples and cover with the remaining milk and egg mixture. Cook 25 minutes at 400°F / 205°C, then 3 minutes at 500°F / 260°C "broil".
Serve with maple syrup.
