Recipe ingredients

  • 2/3 cup (160 mL) 1% or 2% milk
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) butter*
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) cornstarch*
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) milk
  • 1 egg*, beaten
  • 3 Tbsp. (45 mL) sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. (1 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. (1 mL) ground nutmeg
  • Apple in pieces, to taste
  • Peach in pieces, to taste
  • White cake pieces, to taste
  • Rolled wafers, to taste

Preparation

In a saucepan, gently bring milk and butter to a boil.
In a small bowl, thin the cornstarch with 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) of milk. Add the beaten egg, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. Pour this mixture in the boiling milk and cook until it thickens, stirring continuously with a whisk. Remove immediately from heat and serve hot or warm.
Dip pieces of fruit or cake using a fork or dip the rolled wafers directly in the dish.

Suggestion

Complete this dip with a bowl of chocolate sauce for multiple flavours. For a slightly sweeter dessert, drizzle the sauce with a little maple syrup or hot honey.
