Recipe ingredients
- 1 can (19 oz/540 mL) romano beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) coarsely chopped pistachios
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) dry breadcrumbs
- 2 Tbsp (30 mL) chili sauce
- 1 Tbsp (15 mL) Dijon mustard
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp (5 mL) chili powder
- Rosemary, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 2 Tbsp (30 mL) canola oil
- 6 slices Canadian Cheddar
- 6 hamburger buns
Preparation
In a large bowl, stir together beans, onion, pistachios, breadcrumbs, chilli sauce, mustard, eggs and chili powder. Season with rosemary and pepper and mash.
Shape into 6 patties, dipping hands in water occasionally to prevent mixture from sticking.
Heat oil in a frying pan over high heat and brown patties for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Continue cooking over medium heat for about 8 minutes per side.
Warm up buns, if preferred, and top each patty with a slice of cheese and favourite condiments. Serve with chips or fries. Garnish with baby dill pickles.
