Recipe ingredients
- 6 to 8 baking apples such as McIntosh
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) coarsely chopped dried apricots or raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) brown or granulated sugar
- 3 Tbsp. (50 mL) all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) cinnamon
- 1 cup (250 mL) all purpose flour
- 2/3 cup (150 mL) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) cold Lactantia Healthy Attitude margarine
- 2/3 cup (150 mL) blanched slivered almonds (optional)
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Peel, core and slice apples. Place in a large bowl with apricots, if using. Stir 1/2 cup (125 mL) sugar with 3 Tbsp. (50 mL) flour and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples and toss to evenly coat.
Place in a 9-inch (23 cm) glass pie plate and pat down. Stir flour and brown sugar together. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut margarine into flour/sugar mixture until crumbly. Mix in almonds, if using. Spread over apples
Bake in centre of preheated oven until apples are fork-tender, 45 to 50 minutes.
Suggestion
Freeze margarine for ten minutes to make cutting in easier for a nice crumbly topping.* We recommend Selection and Irresistibles products.
