Camembert and Fruit Canapés with Pecans

Recipe ingredients
- 20 mL (1 1/2 Tbsp.) unsalted butter
- 50 mL (1/4 cup) Graham cracker crumbs
- 50 mL (1/4 cup) pecan pieces
- 45 mL (3 Tbsp.) lightly packed brown sugar or 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) maple sugar
- 1 pinch ground ginger
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 250 g (1/2 lb) Canadian Camembert, cut into 12 pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
- 12 slices of figs or other fruit (apples, pears, strawberries, apricots, etc.)
Preparation
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a bowl, melt butter in microwave oven. Stir in Graham cracker crumbs, pecans, brown sugar, ginger and nutmeg.
Roll each piece of cheese in beaten egg and roll in crumb mixture. Place each piece of a piece of fruit.
Arrange canapés on a lightly buttered cookie sheet and bake in centre of oven for 4 minutes or until cheese starts to melt and crumb mixture is golden and crispy. Serve immediately.
Suggestion
Camembert and Fruit Canapés with Pecans can replace the traditional cheese platter remarkably well.For a change of taste, place Camembert pieces in buttered ramekins, top with crumb mixture and bake until crumb mixture is golden and crispy, and cheese is melted.
