Recipe ingredients
- 2 lb. (970 g) white beans
- Suff. quantity fresh water
- 1 cup (250 mL) molasses
- 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) prepared mustard
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) red ketchup
- 2 onions, chopped
- Garlic
- To taste, salt and pepper
- 1/3 lb. (150 g) fat or vegetable oil shortening
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 300°F (150ºC).
Put the beans in an oven-proof dish; add water to cover, and add molasses, mustard, ketchup, onions, garlic, salt and pepper.
Bake in the oven for at least 4 fours, adding water if necessary. Add the fat.
When the beans are baked, mash 1/2 cup (125 mL) of beans to thicken the preparation.
