Recipe ingredients

  • 225 g (500 mL / 2 cups) Saputo pizza mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 15 mL (1 Tbsp.) fresh basil, chopped
  • 60 g (2 oz) salami, diced
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 150 mL (2/3 cup) plain bread crumbs
  • 45 mL (3 Tbsp.) olive oil
  • 12 slices Italian plum tomatoes

Preparation

In a bowl, combine the pizza mozzarella cheese, egg, basil and salami. Season to taste.
Shape mixture into 12 walnut-sized balls and flatten slightly. Press into bread crumbs to coat.
Refrigerate one hour.
In a non-stick pan, heat the oil and brown the balls 2 minutes on each side, or until crisp and golden.
Serve hot on a slice of tomato.

Suggestion

Use provolone instead of pizza mozzarella.
