Ingredients

Add all
  • 1 tsp.
    (5 mL)

    butter

  • 3/4 cup
    (190 mL)

    firmly packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 cups
    (60 mL)

    all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup
    (125 mL)

    butter or margarine, softened

  • 2

    large eggs, beaten

  • 1 tsp.
    (5 mL)

    vanilla extract

  • 2

    apples, cored and chopped

  • 1 cup
    (250 mL)

    caramel candies, quartered

  • 1/2 cup
    (125 mL)

    chopped walnuts or pecans

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

Grease a 9-in. x 9-in. (23 cm x 23 cm) baking pan.

In a medium-size bowl, combine 1 cup flour and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Using a pastry mixer or fork, incorporate the butter in the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press this mixture evenly on the bottom of the pan. Bake 10 minutes and set aside.

In same mixing bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Pour over the base in the baking pan and return to the oven for approximately 35 minutes or until the top is golden. Cool slightly before cutting into squares.
