Add all
  • 1 tsp.
    (5 mL)

  • 1 cup
    (250 mL)

    warm water

  • 1/2 pkg
    (8 g)

    envelope of active dry yeast

  • 2 1/4 cups
    (565 mL)

    all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp.
    (2 mL)

  • 2 tsp.
    (10 mL)

    olive oil

In a bowl, dissolve sugar in 1/2 cup (125 mL) warm water. Stir in yeast and let it foam. If yeast does not foam, it is no longer good. Throw it out and start over.

In a large bowl, mix salt with half of the flour, make a well in the middle and pour yeast, oil and remaining water into it.

Work liquids into flour, gradually adding remaining flour and shaping the dough into a ball.

Knead dough about 8 minutes.

Place dough in a lightly oiled glass or ceramic bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 1 hour at room temperature.

Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C.

Punch dough down, divide in two and shape into two balls.

Working from the centre out, push down with palms on a ball shaping it into a 12-in. (30-cm) disk.
