8 tips to keep your move hassle-free and help you settle into your new home.

find your metro grocery store
Find your future grocery store.

Take a few minutes to locate the Metro in your new neighbourhood, and don’t forget to sign up or change your address for the Metro newsletter and mobile app! To register all your address changes at once, go to Moving Waldo. And while you’re there, enter our contest. You could win your first groceries in your new home!

Clean your kitchen
Clean the kitchen.

No need to lug that bag of stale flour over to the new place. Use your move as an opportunity to clean out and empty your fridge, freezer, and pantry. Plan your week’s menu based on what’s left. That way, you’ll have fewer kitchen boxes to move!

Take care of your helpers
Take care of your helpers.

Think ahead and remember the people who are coming to give you a hand. So homemade or bought at Metro’s Fresh To Go counter, you’ll want the right snacks to fuel your troops. On the morning of you move, fill a cooler with cold drinks and plan a lunch that won’t require dishes or utensils—with crudités, dips, hummus, hard-boiled eggs, and sandwiches.

fill your boxes
Fill your boxes.

Pack the dishes and kitchen accessories that you use the least often, and clearly identify each box’s contents. Stick your labels onto a vertical side of your box, so they’ll be visible when the boxes are stacked in the truck. Cut out handles as required, and make sure no box weighs more than 50 lbs.

stock up your cleaning products
Stock up on cleaning products.

Make sure you have all the essentials to get your new home spick-and-span: paper towels, baking soda, dish soap, rags, all-purpose cleaner, dish gloves, garbage bags, etc. Pro tip: take the newspaper you used to wrap and pack your dishes, and use them to wash the windows!

start your day off right
Start your day off right.

Moving is hard work, so to get through the long day ahead, be sure to have a quick but nutritious breakfast. An appealing selection of bagels, homemade muffins, prepared fruits, cheeses, pastries, juice, and coffee is a perfect choice.

Plan your supper
Plan your supper.

What if instead of that traditional moving-day pizza, you went with a delicious meal that was made just for you by Metro’s catering service? You should also try the sandwiches platters, wide variety of salads, cold pizza, and other dishes from our Fresh To Go counter. Fast, economical and above all, close to your new home!
