Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly grease a 4 x 4 x 9”(10 x 10 x 22.5 cm) cake pan.
In a large bowl, mash bananas with a fork.
Add unsweetened apple sauce and eggs to banana mixture and blend well. Set aside.
In another bowl, mix together flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices.
Slowly add dry ingredients to wet, alternating with milk.
Add vanilla extract and mix until ingredients are just blended.
Pour mixture into prepared cake pan and bake in oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean.
Let banana cake cool for 15 minutes before unmolding.
