Preparation
In a bowl, add the orange juice concentrate, maple syrup, soy sauce, tomato paste, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Use an immersion blender to puree until you get a smooth texture. Set aside.
Cut the block of tempeh into 4, then slice each of these quarters into 3 strips. Repeat with the second block of tempeh.
In a deep pan on medium high, add a cup of the marinade and keep the rest for later. Add a cup of water and mix thoroughly. Add the tempeh strips and gently mix until they are entirely coated with the marinade.
Bring to a boil and then lower the heat to medium low. Cook the tempeh for 12 to 15 minutes uncovered or until the liquid has evaporated. Remove from the heat.
Add the molasses to the bowl with the remaining marinade. Mix until you get an even texture. Use a brush to cover each strip of tempeh with the marinade.
Cooking on the BBQ
Oil your grill grates and preheat the BBQ on medium high.
Place the tempeh strips on the grill. Cook each side for 3-4 minutes or until the marinade has caramelized. Baste with more marinade if you want.
Cooking on the stove
Keep cooking in the pan until the marinade has caramelized.
Presentation
