Place the dates in a saucepot and add the water.Cook for about 5 minutes until an homogeneous mixture is reached.Remove from the heat and let it cool.Preheat the oven at 375° F.In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and the salt.Add the oatmeal, brown sugar and the butter.Mix until all is combined and has a grainy texture.Spread half of the flour mixture in the bottom of a buttered dish.Spread the cooked dates on top and top with the rest of the flour/oatmeal mix.Bake for 25 minutes.Remove from the oven and let it cool before cutting them into squares.
